We recommend that in general, you only buy gold bullion and silver bullion products from reputable dealers. We also do not recommend buying from the bank, as the premiums and prices are generally much higher.
While price is a big factor, you should always make sure you are buying your gold bullion from a reputable source. This guarantees the purity and ensures that your gold bullion will be genuine. For example, Global Bullion Suppliers is a DNA dealer registered with the Royal Canadian Mint.
If your goal is to buy cheaper gold, we recommend lower premium products, such as an “our choice product”, a bar or a round. Or to purchase in bulk - as we offer tiered pricing / savings based on quantity.
Always do your due diligence when it comes to buying gold bullion and silver bullion.
Whether you buy 1 oz of gold bullion in the form of a coin, bar, or round – you essentially hold 1 oz of gold bullion.
There are a few main differences that separates a coin from a bar and a round.
Coins are minted by the non-private mints and have a legal tender attribute dto them. For example, the 1 oz gold maple leaf coin has a $50 face value.
Overall purity can also play a factor. Most coins have a purity of 99.99%, whereas some bars and rounds will have a purity of 99.90% However, the overall value of gold bullion will still be 1 oz, no matter which piece you own.
Coins are also world known and recognizeable, since they are associated to the countries that produce them.
Examples of these coins include:
The Gold Maple Leaf and Silver Maple Leaf from Royal Canadian Mint
The Gold Eagle and Silver Eagle from the US Mint
The Gold Britannia and Silver Britannia from Royal Mint
The Gold Krugerrand and Silver Krugerrand from the South African Mint
The Gold Philharmonic and Silver Philharmonic from the Austrian Mint
The Gold Kangaroo and Silver Kangaroo from the Australian Mint
Some people believe that it will be easier to get better price when reselling a gold bullion coin vs a gold bullion bar vs a gold bullion round – but this is all dependent on the dealer you sell to.
This refers to the purity of the gold bullion coin itself. A gold bullion coin with 9999 fineness is considered a 99.99% pure gold bullion coin, whereas a gold bullion coin with a 999 fineness is considered a 99.90% pure gold bullion coin.
Whether you hold 1 oz of gold that is 9999 or 999, it is still 1 oz of gold.
24 Karat Gold refers to the purity of the gold. All gold is measured on the 24k scale. This is used primarily in the jewellery industry.
For example, 18k gold is 75% pure gold, as it is simply 18/24 on the karat scale.
All gold bullion pieces sold by Global Bullion Suppliers has a minimum fineness of 99.9% gold.
In Canada, gold bullion is considered an investment vehicle and is exempt of tax. For a gold bullion piece to be considered bullion grade, it must have a minimum of 99.5% pure gold must be achieved. For a piece of silver bullion, a purity of 99.9% pure silver or more must be achieved.
Most Canadians believe that the 1 Oz Gold Maple Leaf coin from Royal Canadian Mint is the best product to buy. This is due to the security features, purity of 9999 (99.99%), and the fact that this piece of gold bullion is essentially known world-wide.
At Global Bullion, we believe any gold coin (which means it was minted by a government entity and has a legal tender attributed to it) is a good piece to buy and add to your collection. Some other popular gold coins include the 1 oz gold Eagle from the US mint, the 1 oz gold Britannia from the Royal Mint, the 1 oz gold Philharmonic coin from the Austrian Mint, etc.
The price of gold is constantly changing, as it is linked to the live price of gold. We recommend using a website like https://www.kitco.com/market/ to help you determine the current live prices of gold, silver, platinum, palladium and rhodium. This website also shows gold bullion price in oz, gram, kilogram, etc.
Your goal should always be to pay as little above spot as possible for gold. Keep in mind, when buying a coin or a more unique item, the premiums and the amount over spot will always be higher than a round, bar, or a discounted product (less known mint, for example). There really is no fixed number of what you should pay over spot for gold bullion. The closer you can purchase your gold to the spot price at the time of purchase, the better.
You can buy physical gold bars and gold bullion from the Global Bullion Suppliers website or from our storefront location. You can either pick them up in person or have the items shipped to your address via Canada Post tracked and insured shipping. Any orders with a value over $500 get shipped for free and have a signature requirement on the package.

Whether you buy 1 oz of silver bullion in the form of a coin, bar, or round – you essentially hold 1 oz of silver bullion. The difference comes in the design (coins are minted from a government entity and usually have a queen or kings head on the obverse), the legal tender attribution (coins are the only pieces that will have legal tender) and the overall purity (99.99% for most coins vs 99.90% for bars and rounds). However, the overall value of silver bullion will still be 1 oz, no matter which piece you own. Some people believe that it will be easier to get a higher premium when reselling a silver bullion coin vs a silver bullion bar vs a silver bullion round – but this is all dependent on the dealer you sell to.
This refers to the purity of the silver bullion coin itself. A silver bullion coin with 9999 fineness is considered a 99.99% pure silver bullion coin, whereas a silver bullion coin with a 999 fineness is considered a 99.90% pure silver bullion coin.
Yes! Canadian Silver Maple Leafs Global Bullions most popular silver coin item. They are minted by the Royal Canadian Mint, so they are government issued and each coin carries a legal tender of $5. We believe all silver bullion is a good investment – whether silver coins, silver bars or silver rounds. All silver bullion coins have a minimum purity level of 99.9% pure (commonly seen in the industry as .999). The Royal Canadian Mint Silver Bullion Maple Leaf is considered to be the purest silver coin, as it is actually .9999 (99.99% pure, versus other rounds which may be 99.90% pure). Any coin, round, or bar that is considered genuine bullion will generally have a stamping or indication of what the purity level is. A minimum acceptable level is .999 in Canada.
Most silver bullion coins are a minimum of 99.90% silver. Some silver bullion coins are even more pure, at 99.99% silver. Most Canadian circulated silver will be: 92.5% silver, 80% silver or 50% silver. Most American circulated silver will be 90% or 40% silver.
You do not pay tax on silver bullion. Any silver bullion piece that has a purity of 99.9% pure silver or more, is tax exempt in Canada. However – there are products known as “junk silver” (Canadian circulated coins and American circulated coins) that would be taxed as they do not meet the minimum requirements for the silver bullion grade tax exemption
Banks do not buy silver coins, silver bullion, gold coins or gold bullion from clients. Global Bullion Suppliers buys all gold bullion and buys all silver bullion as well. We also share a space with a company called Muzeum – who are experts in the space of gold and silver coins – so we recommend them for any gold and silver items that are not considered bullion grade.

You don’t need to worry about prices rising, as you’ve already locked a price in.
